What this includes for 2026
- Health insurance: Kyokai Kenpo FY2026 rate for your prefecture (from March 2026 pay). Employee pays half.
- Nursing care insurance: 1.62% (ages 40–64), half paid by you.
- Child/child-rearing support levy: new, 0.23% from April 2026 pay, half paid by you. Collected together with health insurance.
- Employees' Pension: 18.3%, half paid by you. Monthly standard remuneration capped at ¥650,000.
- Employment insurance: employee share 5/1,000 for general businesses (1 April 2026 – 31 March 2027).
- Income tax: 2026 basic deduction (¥1.04 million for income up to ¥4.89 million) and employment income deduction (minimum ¥740,000). These were enacted to take effect on 1 December 2026 and apply to the whole of 2026 income. Monthly withholding from January to November does not reflect them; the difference is settled in your December year-end adjustment (nenmatsu chōsei). We show the final 2026 tax after that adjustment.
- Resident tax: 10% standard rate + ¥5,000 per-capita levy, with the 2026-income rules (levied from June 2027).
Simplifications
- The FY2026 rates are applied to the whole year. In real calendar-year 2026, January–February pay used the FY2025 health rate and January–March pay had no support levy.
- Monthly pay is assumed to be the same every month; your standard monthly remuneration is looked up from that pay. Commuting allowance and overtime, which also count, are not modelled.
- Spouse: only the full spouse deduction (spouse income at or below the limit). The spouse special deduction for spouses earning a little more is not modelled.
- Dependents: all treated as "general" dependents; specific dependents (19–22), elderly dependents (70+), disability deductions, life-insurance deductions, iDeCo, furusato nōzei, housing loan credits and the income amount adjustment deduction are not modelled.
- Resident tax: uses the national standard rates and the non-taxable thresholds of large cities (e.g. Tokyo's 23 wards). Some cities charge a slightly different rate or per-capita levy (for example Nagoya and Yokohama).
- Not for: health insurance societies (kenpo kumiai) other than Kyokai Kenpo, National Health Insurance, part-time workers outside social insurance, people with other income, or non-residents for tax.
